Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action

The Western Alliance for Greenhouse Action (WAGA) is a Council Alliance across the Western Region of Melbourne and surrounding areas. It was established in 2006 to bring together interested Councils and organisations committed to working collaboratively to respond to climate change at a regional level. WAGA’s aim is to ensure the future liveability of the Western Region by actively assisting communities to build resilience and capacity by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting its communities to effectively adapt to the impacts of climate change.

WAGA’s function is to act as a facilitative body to lead and assist councils and their communities with the challenges presented our changing climate. We achieve this by actively collaborating, undertaking advocacy and ensuring knowledge excellence and knowledge exchange across the region.

The eight WAGA member municipalities encompass an area of over 4700km˛ to Melbourne’s west, with a regional population of around 838,475.
